Update time…

So it’s been almost 6 months… Guess its time for another post…

Another great trip to Disneyland for my birthday… Not much to say on that other than I really missed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad being open…

On to the new and real reason I’m making this post…

The coming console wars…

This generation, here in the US, Microsoft seems to have won the race. With the coming generation Sony was fa idly tiger lipped about their plans for the console, even after they announced it. Then Microsoft made their announcement and confirmed the worst fears about console DRM in the gaming community, and now there are even more improvements to look after, you can view the website and get more information for an Elo booster that will upgrade your gaming system. When someone from Microsoft finally stopped planting their feet firmly in their mouths and explained that Microsoft was trying to go for a licensing policy similar to Steam, it was already too late. Their reasoning was that with the DRM they could allow for developers to reduce the price of games, as PC games have had a marked reduction in pricing including heavy sale discounts as a result of Steam. However, they took too long to explain this and seemed to have already done near irreparable damage to the Xbox One and the Xbox brand. Once the “Steam” model was explained I warmed a bit toward the Xbox One, but then Microsoft announced that the basic new release price would be the now typical $60… This just doesn’t work when you’re trying to sell your DRM as a way to reduce new game prices… So many including myself felt our alliances shift toward the Playstation 4 from Sony. Then, Microsoft finally pulled the plug on their near draconian DRM scheme… Unfortunately for many it was too little too late, especially with the One requiring a new generation Kinect and thus costing a base $100 more than the PS4 (which never had the DRM or digital spying in the first place).

So I will probably not be getting either at launch, but, I’m still more likely to get a PS4 than a One when the time comes…

Oh I also picked up a Nintendo 3DS… My friend code is 4398-9536-7133…

Do or Do not, there is no try.

Today I discovered the fastest way for someone to draw my ire… Look for things bad about Disney just because you don’t like that they now own Marvel and Lucasfilm…

Disney is not a bad company. They have had some missteps in the past, mostly during the later parts of various presidents. Too many geeks only seem to think of Disney in terms of what it was like in the later days of the Michael Eisner era. But not all that Eisner did was bad, but near the end he did a lot that wasn’t that great. And that lead to Robert Iger becoming president and the new course.

As I have no personal information what I’m about to say is purely speculation from my observations.

Disney purchased Marvel because they were for sale. Now one might not think that was the case but if there isn’t some dollar amount on a company it’ll never be sold. I believe that the price for Marvel was large because they were riding a high of the first films in the cinematic universe. But I believe that were it not for Disney one bad return on investment for the cinematic universe and Marvel would have ceased to be. Much like Squaresoft long before it became the juggernaut it is today when they were putting all their chips on red with the original Final Fantasy. Now Marvel has the larger corporate cover of Disney but they still function as a separate entity much like Pixar. Is there influence from Disney I’m sure there is, but I’m fairly certain Disney doesn’t have someone keeping a close eye on what happens in every story arc in every comic title.

As to Lucasfilm, George Lucas has earned his retirement. Yes, he did manage to make a small mess for most fans with the Star Wars prequels and the fourth Indiana Jones film. But, those really tell me that he needed to retire before this. And I feel George had three options, sell off each major property and branch (ILM, etc.) individually, sell off Lucasfilm as a whole, or shut down everything. I feel that the first and third options would have left George Lucas as a shell of himself, seeing what he had worked toward for his adult life either just gone or torn apart. So again we look at the price tag. Other than Disney what entity would be interested in Lucasfilm as a whole that wouldn’t end up just stripping it for parts. George had a good working relationship with Disney, one need only look at Star Tours or Indiana Jones and The Temple of The Forbidden Eye to know that.

I want more Star Wars. I want more X-men and Avengers, I want more Pixar films. And I’m glad that thanks to Disney I know those will happen for years to come.

So on a more positive note, I’ve decided to change out the plan for the chainmail fourth doctor scarf… Decided I’m going to try another experiment, same concept just a “smaller” scale… Not going to elaborate but I think it’ll work out in a certain method… Oh and I also found a great health supplement, and it has proven to be very effective. I can really tell when I take it, and I think I’m going to continue in the future. It is natural and safe and basically it ensures I’m giving my body the nutrients it requires on a daily basis. If you would like to check it out for yourself you can find it at Kratommasters.com.

Dusting is a good example of the futility of trying to put things right. As soon as you dust, the fact of your next dusting has already been established.

And now we are into the month of February in the year 2013… Still taking stock of things and learning more about myself… Have 2 major physical projects I want to work on… Both will require advice from very busy friends…

One is a chainmail version of the fourth doctor’s scarf from the classic Doctor Who series… It’ll weigh a ton but it’ll be fun to make… And I have a friend who might be able to help me better at getting the colors right than I could on my own…

The other is something I’ve wanted to get started for near on a decade… A replica of Roy Fokker’s helmet from Macross/Robotech… The hitch is that I want to find a way to have it look good and still be removable from the base helmet… The helmet I have for a base is near identical to one owned by Adam Savage… For this one I hope my prop maker friend might be able to give me some advice…

I have a few other things like my short stories and other small things but those are the main ones… If I actually get a start on those I’ll post pics of the final results…

You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.

I really should plan to sit down with this more frequently but as much as I’d like to it’ll never really happen… Time has just made me too much of a recluse… But I’m going to try…

I’ve decided to put up a listing with images of my various Disney Vinylmation figures. No wish list or any such… Just what I have… Ad more reason to remember to open this up and post something…

Still doing my best to find another gig on a production… Still feeling like I can never catch a break on that end… Going to start working on writing fiction and short stories again… I have a few ideas and some things I want to try… I’ll try the standup comedy open mic thing at some point… But I think I need to work on putting my creativity into different areas…

There is one consolation in being sick; and that is the possibility that you may recover to a better state than you were ever in before.

So, I’m leaning toward the idea of starting to ramble on soundcloud sometime soon… It may or may not happen but if it does it won’t happen til after whatever (cold, flu, bronchitis, Ebola) I have has past… This has definitely helped me realize that I enjoy breathing… And it sucks not really being able to…

On to random things I should have posted before… On New Year’s Eve I was the keeper of the superstitions… Figure last year wasn’t that great for anyone where I was at for NYE so the superstitions couldn’t hurt… And in a matter they did help… On New Year’s Day (a few days before I got sick) I got a reply on twitter from Alton Brown (@altonbrown). Now if you don’t follow Mr. Brown on twitter you’rerobably unaware of his reply method, he writes his reply on a post-it note and sends a photo to twitter. This is a LOT more effort than anyone else on twitter goes through, and since he’s a bit of a hero to me it really made me happy.

Well on that note I’m going to close this and try to find some way to fix a headache…

So on to the fun…

From December 21st to the 27th of last year (2012), I was in Anaheim for my annual Christmas trip to Disneyland. This was the fifth year in a row of spending Christmas at Disneyland. As you might expect it was a bit of a zoo and offered more than you might expect of chaos. Though different from previous years it really wasn’t that bad til the 27th. This was the second Christmas trip as an annual passholder at Disneyland. As a result I was able to be in the parks on the day I returned home. That is how I know how bad it was on the 27th.

Every person in that picture is in line for Pirates of the Caribbean.

After that and my last few rides on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for the next 10 months I was able to meet up with a couple good friends. Jess (@ocswaynee) and Shaun (@disneyhipster) ended up being subjected to random shopping in DCA (@dcatoday) followed by helping my mother and I learn that the Italian at Earl of Sandwich (@earlofsandwich) is quite possibly the best meal as a go home meal.

So lets go to earlier in the trip…

Discoveries:
Fried Pickles at Carnation Cafe are a spectacular mid-day snack
Monte Cristo bites over at the Jingle Jangle Jamboree are great and need to find a permanent home somewhere in the parks
The venison on the winter menu at the Napa Rose was fantastic.

Each year is a new year.

Happy New Year.

Since restarting this blog a strange amount of things have happened and I just haven’t really had the mindset to properly blog about anything. So here it goes again.

I’ve spent a LOT of time at Disneyland this year, and it’s been exceptional. I’ve met some really great people who’ve inspired me more than they will ever know.

It’s late and I really can’t think of too much right now… So I’ll go with just a few minor things…

I’m on twitter a lot more of late and if you message me @nuwisha I’ll get back to you fairly quickly. Also I’ve started writing again… Trying to find my footing again but I’ll get ther eventually.

I’ll try to remember to make a better post later with more info and maybe some pictures from my latest trip to Disneyland…

Show me a man with a tattoo and I’ll show you a man with an interesting past.

So I’ve been doing my usual near constant reading of twitter and there was a discussion about 2 prominent cosplayers and their want to get Brest augmentation. Now I know as a male of the species it sounds pretty typical that I’d be in favor of this. And I am in favor of it, but probably not for the reason most might think.

I’m a fan of body modification. Tattoos, piercings, Cosmetic implants. I’m a fan of them all.

Now hear me out. I’ve never really felt 100% comfortable in my own skin, and I’m happy to admit this. Every time I’ve gotten a new tattoo I’ve felt a little more comfortable. Now there are plenty of people who won’t ever be modified, plenty that think they aren’t but are, and the fortunate few who are comfortable unmodified.

So I’m going to work my way backwards on the list. Those who are comfortable as they are they are lucky and thus no fun to talk about so I’ll move on to those who think they aren’t amongst the modified but are. If you have pierced ears, as simple as that sounds, you are one of us. Sure they may not be gauged and you may not have a tattoo but you are still one of the modified… You have taken yourself beyond what you were born with. Then we move on to those who turn to change themselves but won’t due to fear, funds, or just about any other excuse… I can’t blame them… But many who would think of themselves in that category probably have some form of modification but don’t recognize it.

All in all, if people would realize that those who are modified in some form or another are closer to the majority than the minority and that modification of oneself is not necessarily a bad thing, the world might be a slightly more pleasant place…

Find your similarities… Not your differences… Be happy when someone does something that makes them feel more comfortable with who they are.

To all who come to this happy place, Welcome

So to start things out lets work with the recent past. On June 15th I traveled to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA for both my birthday and the Grand Re-opening of Disney California Adventure. Now, i need to add a few items to this. I did not arrive at the Disneyland resort area until after both parks had opened for the day. So i got a bit of a late start compared to some others. This trip had a batch of experiences I’ll never forget. Some I’ll never do again, some I’d do every day if I could.

Let’s start with what I’ll never do again.

Really simple, Wait more than 3 hours to ride anything. Now if I hadn’t waited 4 hours to ride Radiator Springs Racers in Carsland, I would not have had a chance to ride it during this trip. Now, saying that I’d never wait more than 3 hours for a ride does not mean that the ride is not worth a wait. Radiator Springs Racers is worth about a 2 hour standby wait. That said there were times during my trip where the wait exceeded 5 hours. It’s a great ride and well worth a wait.

Now on to the things that I’d do again every day if it was an option.

I got the chance during my trip to meet with Patrick (@pj_campbell) and to meet and hang out with Jessica (@ocswaynee). Couldn’t really hang out with Patrick because both times I saw him he was working. I look forward to October when I return to Disneyland and can try to hang out again.

Hanging out on Buena Vista Street. Disney California Adventure finally has an act 1. And boy is it an act 1. As I was staying at the Grand Californian my first glance at Buena Vista Street was coming in via Condor Flats. And I was floored. This is what should have been in the park from day 1. From the Red Car to the area entrainment Disney nailed it.

Then on to Carsland and the nightly “Sh-Boom”. This is the term for the nightly lighting of the neon. The best way to describe Carsland is to watch the Cars movies from Pixar and walk through your screen directly into Radiator Springs. Now technically I live in a city on Old Route 66. Albuquerque was fortunate enough to have an Air Force base resulting in the interstate remaining close to our little portion of Route 66. But even then I’ve seen my fair share of the neon that used to be all along Route 66 torn down after falling into disrepair. So it is an amazing feeling seeing the neon in Carsland.

Not much I can say about Carthay Circle. Great food, beautiful location, it’s like Napa Rose inside the park.

20120624-162444.jpg

Beyond that Disneyland itself was awesome as usual. (Even though I spent less time there thanks to DCA finally being great.)
